Greetings Members of the Lilly-Washington Historical Society (L-WHS):
MEMBERSHIP IN THE LILLY-WASHINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY
This News Letter is being sent to our members, to former members who did not renew for 2006, and to all graduates of Lilly High School/Lilly-Washington Joint High School who have not as yet become members of the Lilly-Washington Historical Society.
We are currently celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the Establishment of a Community that would become present day Lilly Borough and Washington Township. Since all present and former residents of Lilly Borough and Washington Township have been participants in the ongoing history of Our Community, the L-WHS needs each of you to help – in whatever way you can – to memorialize the past, and preserve the “history” of your hometown. The Lilly Washington Historical Society (L-WHS) intends to recruit all current and former residents of Lilly Borough and Washington Township. We ask that those of you who have not as yet become a Member of L-WHS to turn to PAGE 5 OF THIS NEWSLETTER and join Our Historical Society.

During 2006 we have been sending the L-WHS Newsletter to all graduates of Lilly Hi
(to promote the bicentennial year) whether they were members or not. If you are not
now a member of the L-WHS please consider joining now for all the reasons set forth in paragraph two above – WE NEED YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT !!!

SO FAR SO GOOD – THANKS TO ALL THE HANDS-ON HELP OF OUR LOCAL RESIDENTS, CHURCHES, BUSINESSES, AND ORGANIATIONS AND TO THE OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT FROM OUR FORMER RESIDENTS, WE HAVE MANAGED TO PULLED OFF THE CELEBRATION OF A VERY SUCCESSFUL BICENTENNIAL YEAR – with just the tree lighting ceremony on Saturday November 25th - the trolley tour of the decorated town just after Christmas – and the selection of the Great Mountaineer (judged on the basis of hunting prowess) at the end of the year – remaining on the bicentennial calendar.
We had planned to hold a nice little dinner dance to acknowledge and thank those who had worked so hard to organize the bicentennial events. However, when we started to list the names of all the helpers - rather than coming up with a few dozen names - we found instead that a good percentage of the population had been involved in some way in bringing off Our gala bicentennial year.
So we decided to have a party for the whole town. Here is the tentative schedule:
Time: 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Saturday February 3, 2007 Place: Cresson Fire Hall
Agenda: Minimum formal program–only Major Sponsors will be formally acknowledged
Power Point Presentation – THE YEAR THAT WAS-2006 GOOD MUSIC
FUN FOOD BUFFET – BEER - WINE COOLER – COFFEE – SOFT DRINKS
(There will be at least one shuttle bus available.)
Who is invited: All members of the Lilly Washington Historical Society
All residents (and extended family members) of the 15938 Area Code
All former residents (and extended family members) of the 15938 Area Code
Tickets: There will be 400 tickets available starting Monday January 15, 2007

Cost: Tickets will be: $5.00* each for those 12 years of age or older –
$2.00 *each for those under 12 (Parents should use their discretion –
children may attend but the evening’s activities are not designed for children.)
NOTE: In 2007 - L-WHS will establish a “THE VOLUNTEERS OF LILLY.” Monument
We would like to allow all those from the Lilly Area to help fund this monument.
*All proceeds from the ticket sales will be applied toward the cost of the Monument.

NOTE: THE 2007 Member’s CALENDAR is $2.00 this year. The 2005 Calendar was the last one we published with a Color Cover – and the first bid we received for the 2007 Color Cover was almost 2½ times the cost of the 2005 Calendar. We did get a lower bid but even that requires us to raise the price just to break even on the Member’s Calendar.
(Just a reminder – A member in good standing may purchase one calendar at $2.00. Additional calendars purchased by a member or any calendars purchased by a non-member remains at the price of $4.00 each–postage is extra for those that are to be mailed).
BONUS: In addition to the historic photos inside the calendar and the color cover – we are including on the back cover 24 color photos of the events of 2006. ENJOY

Because of my involvement in all the activities of 2006 and for other reasons too numerous to list - but with sincere apologies - I, Jim Salony -the Editor, take full responsibility for the fact that Our History Book – THE SPIRIT OF A COMMUNITY –
WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE for Christmas 2006.
We intend to have Our History Book published as early as possible in 2007. And believe me, no one would like to see this book finished more than JMS. But we are not going to rush to meet an arbitrary deadline and publish a book that would be less than the best product we are capable of producing. This History Book is a “once-in-201-year” project, and we want it to do the Spirit of Our Community proud. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and support.

L-WHS HERITAGE ROOM
WE are now going to begin concentrating on getting Our Heritage Room (the mini museum on the second floor of the Lilly Boro Building) outfitted for the display of the artifacts from Our Community’s Historic Past. Please advise us of any Lilly Area related artifacts that you would be willing to donate or loan to the Heritage Room. Contact us at www.l-whs.com or 814-886-7282
We are working on twelve areas of display. We are looking for a $1000 SPONSOR (or combinations of $250 and $500 sponsors) and ARTIFACTS for each of these areas: Athletic [fully funded ($1,000) in name of Helen Mack] - Mining [fully funded ($1,000) by the GBU] Entertainment [partially funded by $250 in the name of Shirley Marie Fish] - Academic [partially funded by $250 in the names Veronica T. Bender Duffy and Thomas Aloysius Duffy] – Business [partially funded in the names of Ella Dunn Bender and Francis S.
