This extended cold spell has me dreaming of the tropical islands. But, alas, I am stuck in Lilly for the winter. Which I hope ends quickly. This time of year is when I am glad to be retired.

As I write this column I just noticed the birds are in a feeding frenzy, this usually occurs when the weather is changing to the worst.

During the Christmas holidays there were visitors in Lilly enjoying the white Christmas. Among them were Denise and Joseph Razo who visited Denise’s brothers Bill and Dave Dunmyer of Lilly and her sister Cheryl Williams of Cresson. They brought along their two daughters Megan and Anna from their last duty station in Florida. Joe is a native of Texas so this was his first white Christmas.

After Christmas the young family left for Okinawa for three years. Both Joe and Denise are serving in the military. Denise is a daughter of the late Joe and Patricia (Bradley) Dunmyer of Lilly.

LOCKS OF LOVE

Taylor Whited is the 14 year old granddaughter of Carol Bucynski of Lilly and the daughter of Beth Ann (Bucynski) Whited of Northern Cambria. Taylor recently donated 12 inches of her hair locks to the Locks of Love program that aides children with cancer.

The donation was handled by Michelle Anna, owner of the Hair Designs here in Lilly.

BIRTHDAYS

Today, January 7th Ruth Boast, Mary Jane Lingafelt, Elizabeth McIntosh, Margaret Schouten and Anna Yanik all celebrate birthdays. Margaret (Cooney) Schouten is 99 and was still able to make it to Mass on Christmas Eve. She even stopped to view the manager after Mass.

On the 8th William Walters celebrates as will Camelo Cameletti and Edward Kawtoski on the 9th and Kimberly Ehrenfeld along with Winifred McLucas and Christine Castel on the 10th. Crystal Martino and Crystal Steck celebrate on January 11. On the 12th James Lee Sr., Paul Lukacs, Leah Muldoon, Deborah Selip and David Swinger III all celebrate. Then Ed Stombaugh and Karen Yutsko get to party on the 13th.

WEDDING ANNIVERSARIES

On January 11 Robert and Robin Krull celebrate their wedding anniversary as will Paul and Shirley Phillips on the 12th. Happy Anniversary to both couples.

SPECIAL BIRTHDAY

On January 29, 2010 Sophie Adelsberg will celebrate her 102nd birthday. Many will remember Sophie from when she was a cook for the Lilly High School. She and her husband resided in Upper Dutchtown. Remember “Snowball” Adelsberg! Sophie was a Zurilla by birth and her sister Mary Smilnak lived in Dutchtown and her brothers Joe and Steve in Lilly. If you would like to send her best wishes her address is: Sophie Aldelsberg 230 Yale Ave. Euclid, Ohio 44025.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Historical Society does not have any History Books, they are sold out. However there is a growing list of people requesting the book including the Sisters of Saint Joseph at Baden for their archives. Any one having a book they want to sell can let Jim Saloney know and he will put them in touch of a person wanting a book.

Recently Janice Sawko, now in California, sent her parents book as a donation back to the society. A note with it told of how her late parents had enjoyed reading about Lilly.

VETERANS

World War Two veterans I am looking for information on this week are: George Poluck, John Pramuk, Andrew Rabatin, Clair Risban, Steve Rist, Robert Robine, Raymond Ruffley, Robert Rumery, Wayne Rumery, and Ralph Saintz. Enjoy the winter.
