LIBRARY THEFT
Sometime between December 12th and December 19th, 2009, unknown person(s) stole 9 Disney DVD’s from the Lilly/Washington Library. These DVD’s were valued at $180 dollars and the loss not only derives children video programs it also puts a crunch on the library budget that has seen a cut back in county funding because of state budget woes.
The matter has been reported to the Cresson Township Police and a reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the thief. An active internal investigation is on going by the library staff and officials. Call them if you can provide a lead.

ROCKDUMPS
Like it or not it looks like it won’t be long before the coal trucks will be running up and down Piper Street and Memorial Drive all day long. Conveyors were hauled into the Piper dump last week for moving the boney to a shaker and then into trucks. I dread the dirt and dust we are facing for several years. By the way, that company had promised some side walks for Piper Street…Where are they?
SYMPATHY
The many friends and relatives of Quentin Brown were deeply saddened by his recent death; He loved Lilly and came home to visit often. “Quinnie”
was a faithful reader of my column and would call to comment or provide information to help out. I always enjoyed talking to him. His roots in Lilly were deep going back to the early settlers on what was then called Sharp’s mountain, including his ancestor John Brown, who was killed at Gettysburg in the Civil War. His sister, Winnie McLucas and brothers Ken and Dave Brown reside in the area.
ICE SKATING
The dual ice skating rinks are up and operational thanks to the volunteers from the War Memorial who worked in the bitter cold and the Lilly Fire Company that hauled 12,000 gallons of water in freezing temperatures to finish off the surface.
The rinks officially opened on Sunday, January 31st with several families taking the opportunity to try their ability on the ice. Others stopped to see if the rinks were in service.
Friday evening, February 5th there will be an evening skating session with hot dogs and marshmallows available over an open fire. There will also be hot chocolate and tea available. Bring a roasting stick along. This should be a nice family fun event.
The operating schedule at this time is open skating from 1: pm until 6: pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Anyone that can volunteer some time during those hours are ask to call Ron Muldoon at 886-8868 or let any War Memorial officer know.
This rink is a great recreational activity for both area adults and children. Be generous to the War Memorial Fund Drive both to show appreciation of their work and help keep these projects going.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Jim Saloney advises that there is a great possibility that additional copies of the Lilly History Book may become available. He is in touch with a printer that may be able to produce limited amounts of copies. The cost will remain $53 plus $7 if shipped.
He is taking corrections of spelling and dates that need addressed in the current book. He has received some already and advises if someone isn’t sure they sent a change in to resend it. Watch for a notice here if the book becomes available.
