THROUGH THE YEARS
We often wonder were classmates and neighbors wind up after the years go by. Two people a lot of the 60 to 70 year olds will remember are Charlie Stanko and Gloria Vermeulen. They both graduated from Lilly High School and got married in 1965 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church after Charlie got out of the Marines. Gloria had been a majorette in the high school band and graduated in 1964.
Well they are retired now and live in the eastern part of the state in Phoenixville near Valley Forge National Park. Charlie had worked in Philipsburg New Jersey until he retired. They have two children: Gregory and Kimberly.
What is unique about this couple from Lilly is the fact that they are both assistant co-coordinators for the Marine Corp League’s Toys for Tots Program in Montgomery and Chester counties. Each October they are involved with collecting toys from over 100 sites and organizing the packaging by age group and distribution of over 20,000 toys to needy children in those counties. They have done this worthy project since 2001.
VETERANS BOOK
If you have any family visiting in Lilly for Easter that have been in the Armed Forces have them call me and see if I have their information for the book. Some people think you had to be in a war to be a veteran; a veteran is anyone that served in the Armed Forces Peace time or War time. The military is like a football team: War time is the Offense, Peace Time is the Defense. It’s the readiness that counts.
Several people were a great help this past week in tracking or providing information including Pete Bulinsky, Bonnie Sheridan, Ted Kunko and Charles Tremel Jr. I will continue my list next week.
Wishes for a very Happy and enjoyable Easter are extended to all Mainline readers and besides having a nice Easter enjoy the spring and watch the flowers bloom. Oh, Pete Bulinsky tells me that deer love to eat crocus flowers. Never knew that.
