WEATHER PREDICTION
Jim Steberger gave me his weather prediction for the coming winter, which is below normal temperatures, but not much snow, and an early spring, which doesn’t really sound too bad. I will track Steve Hammond’s prediction down this week. Steve has the record of more reliable predictions, but now that Jim is the Commander at the Legion, rank may prevail.
Speaking of the Legion, any veteran now serving on active duty or who has served since 1990 is welcome as a Post member of the Legion. An open invitation is extended for them to join the Lilly American Legion. The Legion is truly a community organization that tries to help improve the lives of the area citizens. Become a part of a great group.
Lilly’s Legion is 88 years old this year.
There was a better turnout for the Veteran’s day service this year at the War Memorial Field. All deceased veterans were remembered especially the ones who died in the past year from the Lilly area or former residents including John Albarano, Thomas Biaconi, Lawrence Coffee, Vera Doyle, Francis Gelbke, James Martino, William R. McDonald, Joseph Miesko, Thomas Phillips, Stanley Trybus, Louis Turzak, Thomas Wassil and John Yanek.

VETERANS BOOK
Thanks to everyone who helps with this list each week. I was given Florence Brown’s phone number by her niece and called her in Coronado, California. Florence is a spry 92 and was a joy to talk to. She grew up on Portage Street in Lilly, became a nurse, joined the Navy in WW2 and served for 24 years. She was a Lieutenant Commander when she retired in 1968.
The names I am trying to track down this week are Phillip Crooks, James Daugherty, John Davison, Anthony Deirtz, Earl Delozier, Clyde Dombrosky, Leo Dregier, Robert Ehrenfeld, Stanley Esposito and Jack Geiger.
WARM SPELL
It has been nice to see temperatures in the 60’s during the middle of November. This all translates into big savings for most of the area residents that heat with oil.
