Christmas Eve…..probably the most cherished day throughout the world. It is a time of family gatherings, singing children, friendly greetings and a fond togetherness at both home and church. Throw in some snow and turn on the outside Christmas lights and it’s a wonderful time of year. I ordered a CD of Christmas Carols in Polish; if they arrive you can bet I will be playing them after I get home from Mass.
CHURCH SCHEDULES TODAY AND TOMORROW
Our Lady of Mount Carmel National Catholic Church will have Mass at 4 PM on December 24th. There will not be a service on the 25th.
The United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas Eve Candle Light Service this evening at 7 PM. There will not be a service on the 25th.
St. Lukes Lutheran Church will hold an 11 PM Holy Communion and Carol Service There will not be a December 25th service. Also the sister church, 1st Lutheran in Portage will have a 7 PM Cantata and Children’s Choir on the 24th.
Our Lady of the Alleghenies Roman Catholic Church will hold a Christmas Eve vigil beginning at 5:30 PM with a musical program followed by the Crib Blessing and Mass at 6 PM. On Christmas morning there will be an 8 AM Mass at the chapel on Portage Street and a 10 AM Mass at the Church on Main Street.
BIRTHDAYS
Veronica McIntosh, Robert Novotny and Tina Stauski celebrate Christmas Eve birthdays and Richard Burkhart gets to celebrate on Christmas Day. The day after Christmas will be busy as Linda Behe, Tiffany Bishop, Eric Ference, Paul Gressick, Deborah Krug and Joyce Offman all celebrate.
On the 27th June Dupirack and Marilyn Nadolsky celebrate as will Robert George, Crystal Hite, Ian McTavish and June Nadolsky on the 28th. Mark Wilson celebrates on the 29th and Jasmine Flores and Brian Latoche on the 30th. Happy Birthday to All.
Next Thursday, New Years Eve will be the 91st birthday for Agnes Phillips. She continues to be the kind, caring person we all know. Agnes still participates in Our Lady of the Alleghenies Choir and drives her self to practice. She is also a member of the Legion Auxiliary and occasionally helps out at the veteran’s home. If you see her out and about wish her a Happy Birthday.
WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Patrick and Mary Jo Rainey will celebrate their wedding anniversary on December 30th. It will be especially happy this year as their son Mark and his family are home for a Christmas visit.
AMBULANCE NEWS
The Lilly Area Ambulance Association held a combined Christmas Party and installation of officers at the Sokol’s on December 20th.
Washington Township Supervisor Les Devett administered the oath of office to the 2010 officers: Jack Barlick, president; Paul Sklodowski vice president; Natalie- Barlick Reed, secretary; Duane Misiura, treasurer; Kevin Hite, chief and Mike Eckenrode, assistant chief.
George Nesbella was honored in recognition of over 30 years service as a paramedic for Lilly and his many years of service as the organizations chief. Kevin Hite was honored for attaining paramedic certification and Grace Behe was recognized for attaining First Responder certification.
VETERANS
The World War Two veterans I am trying to track this week are: Andy Miller, Anthony Miller, Joseph Moore, Michael Motel, Charles Mulhearn, Jerome Mulhearn, Francis Nagle, Adam Nater, William L Noble and three Noga’s: Frank, John and Thomas. Any help is greatly appreciated.
TREATS
The children in town were treated well by Santa Claus as treats were given at the Sokol’s, GBU, American Legion, PNA and Fire Hall. 14 volunteer elves helped pack the treats at the Legion on Saturday morning,
