With just a week until Christmas Eve everyone is in a last minute frenzy of baking cookies and rolls, wrapping gifts, sending last minute Christmas cards and cleaning house.
Lucky for me, I have four daughters, so it is easy to get filled up with cookies, and this year daughter Cindy baked all my favorite rolls so I’m well prepared for the Holiday weight gain.
Do your self a favor and take a ride around the area after dark and enjoy the Christmas lighting, Lilly, as always looks great and coming into Cresson on Route 53 on West 2nd Street from Lilly is exceptionally nice this year. Homes that are brightly lit up reflect a friendly atmosphere. There are too many nicely lit properties to try and pick a favorite.
SETTLED IN
I was pleased to hear from my cousin Mary Kertes this past week. Her and Mike are settled in to their new home in Shiremanstown, near Carlisle. Both have retired and are getting to spend plenty of time with their grandchildren. Most of her grandchildren are nearby adding fun and excitement to their days. Three of her children live close to her: Dr. Michael, Christina and Harold. Another son, Major Steve Kertes is at Fort Hood preparing for his second deployment to Iraq.
BIRTHDAYS
A belated birthday greeting is sent to Fred Godish who celebrated on December 15th. I manage to miss his special day each year.
Today, December 17th, Frank Klayko, Josephine Kozak, Rick Koval, Andrew Lysic and my son Stephen Barlick are celebrating their birthdays as will Bill Latoche and Helen Motel on the 18th, Richard Link on the 19th and Brittinie Bender, Phyllis Beres, Colton Lingafelt , Patty McElheny and Adam Nagy on the 20th.
On December 21 Eileen McDermott celebrates as will Ken Leap and Les Devett on the 22nd . Happy Birthday to All.
ANNIVERSARY
Barbara and Stanley Kukla celebrate their wedding anniversary on December 22nd. Congratulations.
VETERANS
The World War Two veterans I am trying to track this week are: Ray T. McAllister, Edward P. McCabe and Thomas McCabe, both possibly WW2 casualties. (Not Esther’s sons) John McCreary, John E. McDonald, Patrick McIntosh, Jay F. McMullen, Anthony and Jasper Melotti and Frank and John Microsh,
SANTA CLAUS
Santa will be at the Sokols on Saturday the 19th and at the Legion, GBU and Fire Hall on the 20th. Next Thursday I will try to run a church schedule.
REMINDER
The 2010 Historical Society calendar is available at Galls Insurance Agency. A nice view of the town adorns the cover and there is also an excellent reproduction of the Foot of Four painting from 1851. Of further interest are the twelve large families included on the monthly pages. A real keepsake!
Also available at Galls are the 2009 Christmas balls from the Decorating Committee.
