LITE UP NIGHT
The annual Town Lighting ceremony went off with out a hitch on Saturday, November28th. A nice group of citizens from infants to their ninety’s were in attendance and enjoyed the time together. The weather was near perfect as the rain held off and the temperatures stayed in the forties.
The center of town took on its usual holiday spectacular charm with some new additions making down town Lilly a must see during a snowy Yule time night.
It made for a nice evening as Vicky (Paul) Durkay was celebrating her birthday, her mom Helen also stopped by for a sleigh ride with her daughters and grandchildren. I also noticed Amy Bender out for the lighting ceremony. It is great to see these seniors interested.
Over 120 riders from Lilly, Cresson and even a visiting soldier from Massachusetts enjoyed the sleigh ride around town provided by Ernie Wissinger of Misty Haven Stables, his daughter, and their two percherons. Five years running now and we have yet to have snow on the streets for Ernie to use the blades instead of the wheels….keep trying.
Ernie’s Percherons have a unique history. They are descendants of Arabian Horses left in France when the Moors were defeated at Tours in 732 A.D. Bred with Fleming stock they have endured for twelve centuries.
HAWAIAN TRIP
Betty McCarthy returned to the cooler weather of Lilly on November 22 after a three week trip to Honolulu, Oahu Island, Hawaii with her daughter Brigid and grandsons Sean and Ryan. The temperatures there were in the mid 80’s with little or no humidity.
Brigid was there on business so Betty and her grandsons spent the days together at the Waikiki Beach Embassy Suites outdoor pool. They enjoyed the boardwalk and nightly manager receptions where they got to enjoy Hula dancing and musicians playing ukuleles.
Betty attended a Luau where Polynesian dancers danced with torches of fire; she also toured the Dole Pineapple plant on an open train, drove to the North Shore to see tremendous waves and hiked about a mile in a state park to the Wamiea Falls. Betty also visited the dormant Diamond Head volcano near Honolulu. She took her grandsons to a Sea Park and got to see the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor. Her last weekend there was spent enjoying Waikiki Beach where she played in the sand as Sean and Ryan swam in the Pacific Ocean.
MAZZ’S PIZZA
Mazz’s Pizza opened last week at the Beverage Shop here in Lilly. He is open to 11 PM each night and provides free local delivery which will be nice on winter nights. His menu includes pizzas, subs; Italian dinners to go etc .I enjoyed the Italian Sub on a home baked roll.
