The Penn Cambria 8th grade football team has started off to a great season winning their first two games the last one 22-6. This is the same group that was undefeated as a seventh grade team and bodes well for the future. Lilly players include Mackenzie Behe, A.J. Leahey, James Mardula, Nathan Keagy and Nathan Przybyz. Sidelined this year due to non football related injuries are Joshua Nadolsky and Christian Sklodowski.
The Lilly Raiders are drawing large crowds to their Sunday afternoon games. The parking lot was full of cars this past week end for their game.
FAMILY REUNION
The Marty and Stiney Yarnish family held their first reunion which they now intend to hold annually. It was held at the Adam Croyle Park in Sidman on August 16th and approximately 75 family members attended.
Receiving a prize for the oldest in attendance was Loretto Yarnish, their aunt from Cresson. The Longest Distance prize went to Sam Amrhein who traveled from Germany with his daughter Adrina and son Lucas for the occasion. Mom, Pam. stayed in Germany where the family resides. Sam is an Air Force veteran and works for the Defense Department and is a writer for the “Stars and Stripes” military newspaper.
The Yarnish children attending along with their families included Erlynne Amrhein, Desalles Yingling, Darnell Steberger and Debbie McCarthy of Lilly and Joe Yarnish of Cresson. Brother Jim could not attend as was also the case with Dorothy Mae and Francis Conrad.
QUAD RUN
This coming Sunday morning (September 21st) will feature the Lilly Fire Company fall quad run on Lilly Mountain. It is open to both quads and dirt bikes and registration is at the firemen’s pavilion. As usual I will head down for breakfast which the firemen will be serving.
50TH ANNIVERSARY
On Sunday, September 14th there was a very nice early afternoon dinner party held at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church Hall attended by approximately 75 friends, neighbors and family members in honor of Jim and Ann McCabe who observed their 50th wedding anniversary the day before.
The couple’s daughters, Patty Ann McCabe and Christina Swartz and her husband, were in attendance along with grandchildren Brittany, Jim and Sam and great grand son Karlen.
Some out of town guests included Charles Davis and his wife from Pittsburgh, Bob and Barbara Bender from Hancock, Maryland, sister in law Katie Davis and her sons Will and Tim from Cleveland, Mike and Tess Davies from Baltimore and Jeannie Gordan from Philadelphia on Ann’s side of the family and Jim Miller and wife from Virginia, Ann Glately, Ebensburg, Loretto Gates, Johnstown and Duane Waltmire of Colver on Jim’s side.
Both Jim and Ann have been role models in the community over the years. Jim, an Army veteran, is retired from Penn Dot and the United States Navy Sea Bee reserves. He served on the Penn Cambria School Building Authority and was treasurer for many years of the Lilly Fire Company. Both he and Ann were Emergency Medical Technicians when the fire company operated the ambulance. Ann was active in the Fire Company auxiliary and St. Brigids Church choir.

LAST HURRAY
Probably the last picture to make it into the History book is one of a 1913 class at the old Stromer School that was located just off of present day route 53. It had belonged to the Hannah family that resided here back then and was donated by their descendants to St. Luke’s and Pastor Palko was kind enough to share it with us.
For the file the society would like a picture of the new Stromer School (the Zoskey residence) on the level with students in front of it.
ST. LUKE’S
This Sunday, September 21st at 11 AM, St. Luke’s Lutheran Church will be holding a 135th Anniversary, Communion and Window rededication service at the church Bishop Gregory R. Pile of the Altoona Synod will be in attendance. Rev. John Palko will preside over the Communion.
Reverend Palko and the church members are very thankful for the support received from the community of Lilly and invite everyone to the service and the 2 to 4 PM open house at the church. The chapel has been remodeled and the restored windows put in place. It is worth the visit just to see the beautiful stained glass windows close up. Light refreshments will be served.
