Greetings Members of the Lilly-Washington Historical Society (L-WHS):
hurrah ! (note lower case “h” and only one “!”) because one never knows what can happen.
BUT if all goes as scheduled-and we are on track with the publisher to have Our History Book published by November 1, 2008.
We pre-sold a 250 page History Book for $32 (tax included) plus $5.00 for shipping.
The History Book, The Spirit of a Community, has grown to over 700 pages with nearly 2000 photos, maps, charts, and graphs. (The publisher, Jostens, tells us that books they have recently published of this page count and photo content have retailed at from $90 to $125.)
As I’m sure everyone realizes that over the last four years basic costs have increased significantly and the fact that the content of Our History Book has increased almost three-fold means the cost of production has increased substantially over the $32 initially charged for the History Book (and the initial $5 shipping charge) – even over the amount of additional funds raised by selling Memorial Ads in the History Book.
Nevertheless – until October 31, 2008 – we are going to hold the price for Our History Book at $32 tax included – with a $5 mailing charge for those who wish The History Book shipped. After October 31, 2008, The Spirit of a Community will sell at $53 (tax included) and the shipping cost will be $7.
The order form for the History Book is included in this Newsletter on page 3.
We have arranged to have the publisher ship Our History Book from their State College, PA head-quarters. It is imperative that the address list we give Jostens is correct. Therefore, we ask all those who paid the $5 to have their book shipped to return the address sheet of this newsletter with an indication that the address is correct – or if it is not, to indicate the address to which the History Book should be sent. (Return the address sheet ASAP – History Book will be sent only to verified addresses)
- Note 1 - the address sheet may be returned with any order for additional History Books or for the 2009 calendar.
- Note 2 - if you are not sure if you ordered a book to be shipped or to be picked up, return the verified address sheet
- Note 3 – if you did not pay the $5 shipping charge and are going to pick up your History Book in Lilly, you do not have to return the verified address sheet. History Books that are not to be shipped may be picked-up at the Lilly Borough Building at a time and date that will be announced in the Church Bulletins and the local newspaper. When the books are picked up you do not need a receipt or any other verification – we have all the information on file.
- Note 4 – if you ordered a book to be sent to someone else – that person has been sent a newsletter and will return the address verification sheet – you, the “orderer” need not verify the “giftee’s” address.

2009 L-WHS CALENDAR
The 2009 (and probably the 2010) L-WHS Calendar will feature photos of families from Our Community. See Order Form on Page 2 of this Newsletter. Note the copies of the 2003-04-05-06-07 and 2008 calendars are available each featuring at least a dozen historical photos of Our Community’s people, clubs, teams, families, classes, bands, churches, stores, and much more. The calendars make a wonderful supplement to Our History Book. If you do not have all the calendars consider the purchasing the set of six calendars – 2003 – 2004 – 2005 – 2006 – 2007 – 2008 – all six for $15.plus $5 if you want the set shipped. Note also individual calendars are available. (The 2007 calendar is of particular interest as it has as a supplement two-dozen colored photos of the events that occurred during Our Bicentennial Year – 2006.
